CLUSTER HEADACHE AWARENESS DAY 2026

SAVE THE DATE: Cluster Headache Awareness Day is Coming Up!

Cluster Headache Awareness Day (March 21st) is almost here, and it's time to get ready to shine a spotlight on this debilitating condition.

Living with Cluster Headache means facing immense pain, often in silence. But this year, we want to change that. We are calling on everyone, sufferers, families, friends, and supporters to come together and do something to raise awareness.

Let’s make our voices heard and show that we are a powerful, supportive community.

Need Inspiration? Here are Some Ideas:

Organise a 'Coffee & Chat' meet-up: Gather locally at a coffee shop or community centre. It’s a great way to meet others who understand, share experiences, and offer support in a relaxed setting.

Host a 'Walk in the Park': Put on your walking shoes and invite people to join you for a casual stroll. A purple-themed walk is a brilliant way to spark conversations and show solidarity.

Get Creative: Plan an art session, bake purple cupcakes, or host a small presentation at your workplace or school. Every effort counts!

Share Your Story: If you feel comfortable, share your personal experience with Cluster Headache on social media. Use the hashtags and help others understand the true impact.

How to Get Started:

Pick an Idea: Choose something that resonates with you and your local community.

Spread the Word: Tell your friends, family, and local support groups. Create a simple event page or flyer.

On the Day (March 21st): Share photos, videos, and updates from your activity! Let’s fill the internet with awareness.

Let’s turn our collective pain into powerful action. Together, we can break the isolation, educate the world, and fight for better treatments and support.

Today is March 21st — Cluster Headache Awareness Day.

While most people associate headaches with a dull ache or a bad day at the office, those living with Cluster Headache face a different reality. Known as "Suicide Headaches," the pain is often described as a hot poker being pushed through the eye.

The "Why" March 21st was chosen because it’s the Spring Equinox, a time when the change in daylight often triggers cycles for many patients.

The Facts:

Intensity: The pain is said to be more severe than childbirth or kidney stones.

Frequency: Attacks can happen 1 to 8 times a day during a "cluster" period.

Duration: Attacks usually last between 15 and 180 minutes.

The "Shadow": Even when the pain isn't active, the fear of the next attack looms large.

Need Support? Turn to OUCH (UK):

If you or someone you love is navigating life with Cluster Headache, OUCH UK (Organisation for the Understanding of Cluster Headache) is here to help. We provide invaluable resources, support networks, and information to empower patients and their families. We offer:

Support: Access to patient support groups and a dedicated Advice Line for assistance.

Education: Fact sheets, information booklets, and the latest news on treatments and research.

Awareness: Campaigns and events to educate the public and medical professionals about the condition.

Research: Supporting and funding vital research to find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Learn the triggers: Strong smells, alcohol, and changes in sleep patterns can trigger an attack.

Spread the word: Increased awareness leads to better research, faster diagnoses, and more effective treatments.

Let’s shed light on the "Shadow" today. To those fighting this invisible battle: we see you, we believe you, and you are not alone.
